Where in the world is...

SALT LAKE CITY -- Well, after about a week hiatus, I'm back in Salt Lake City for the opening of Utah's football camp. The projected starters take the field at 8:55 a.m. and practice until 10:30. Currently, I'm in my hotel eating a banana, watching SportsCenter and typing up this blog.

I arrived Sunday night, finished some work, and walked from my hotel to a place called Squatters where I sampled a couple pints of the American Wheat and a really tasty burger. Once again, I was denied a Polygamy Porter T-shirt to bring home to the fam (there were no larges), so I had to settle with a couple pint glasses that I thought were really cool.

A gentleman sitting next to me started talking college football and he professed his love for BYU. He made an interesting comment about being leery about the quest for the perfect season. As I've written here, and several have written around the country, BYU is the frontrunner for BCS stardom this season and its schedule could probably produce a 12-0 campaign. This gentleman, whose name I didn't catch, said he thought that put too much pressure on the players.

Pressure? To quote Colorado coach Dan Hawkins, "It's Division I football! Go play intramurals, brother..."

If there's pressure on any team in this state it's probably Utah, which has its best team since the 2004 undefeated season. Oh, and Utah State, which is looking to pull itself out of the WAC cellar for the first time since joining the conference.

But pressure on BYU? I don't think so.

Anyway, I'm about to head toward the "big mountains" because that's what my directions say. I'll be blogging live from Utah's practice and will have a 30-minute chat at 9:30 a.m. local time. That will probably take place on the practice fields. I just hope I'm not taken out during the chat because I really like my computer. Don't care about personal safety, but super concerned about the computer.

OK. I'll be back with updates later. If anyone needs me, I'll be the one with the ESPN baseball cap on.
