The Chiefs averted a potential long contract holdout by signing first-round pick Glenn Dorsey today. There were signals a couple of days ago that there could be a long holdout.

However, both sides worked hard to get the deal done. That is good news for everyone. Dorsey, the No. 5 overall pick in the draft, will have an instant impact for Kansas City. He is expected to come in and be both a leader and a playmaker at defensive tackle for the Chiefs.

With him missing just one day of training camp, it should not get in the way of Dorsey getting ready for the season opener. I believe Dorsey is one of the best players in the rookie class and he will have a gigantic impact. It would have been a shame had he missed an extended period of training camp. But that is no longer an issue.

Dorsey is the last of the five first-round picks (the Chiefs also have left tackle Branden Albert) in the AFC West to sign. Thus, all four teams are at full power now and ready to prepare for the season.
