SPARTANBURG, S.C., -- Coach John Fox was very guarded in his comments about Friday's practice-field fight between Steve Smith and Ken Lucas. Fox said the situation will be handled internally and wouldn't comment about possible discipline.

But it's a strong possibility there could be harsh discipline and a suspension isn't out of the question for Smith. This isn't the first incident in which he has scuffled with a teammate. Smith was suspended for one game in 2002 after a film-room altercation with practice-squad player Anthony Bright.

Smith went to counseling for anger management after that incident and a lawsuit by Bright was settled out of court.
