Confirming an earlier report, the Packers announced this morning they have fired six assistant coaches, including defensive coordinator Bob Sanders.

The other coaches released are: Defensive ends coach Carl Hairston, defensive tackles coach Robert Nunn, secondary coach Kurt Schottenheimer, cornerbacks coach Lionel Washington and strength & conditioning coordinator Rock Gullickson.

"These are difficult decisions," coach Mike McCarthy said in a statement. "I hold each of these men in high regard on a personal level, and I want to thank them for their service to the Green Bay Packers."

The only defensive coaches McCarthy retained were assistant head coach/linebackers Winston Moss and quality control assistant Joe Whitt Jr.
