GREEN BAY, Wis. -- At least one Green Bay Packers player is ready for the months-long standoff with quarterback Brett Favre to end.

"This is getting very drawn out," defensive end Aaron Kampman said Wednesday after the Packers morning practice. "Quite frankly, everyone wants it to be over -- both sides. ... I can't imagine either party wanting it go on any further. That's just the focus."

Team president Mark Murphy traveled Tuesday night to Favre's hometown of Hattiesburg, Miss., and was scheduled to meet Wednesday with Favre and agent James "Bus" Cook. Murphy reportedly will ask Favre to avoid training camp even after filing his reinstatement papers, but after three days of having the issue hang over camp, a more permanent solution seems preferable.

"I think the big picture is both parties want to move forward," Kampman said. "Both parties want a resolution."

There are three options for a permanent resolution: A trade, a release or a joint decision for Favre to re-join the team in an agreed-upon capacity. The latter two options appear unlikely -- the Packers have pledged not to release him but have made clear he wouldn't return as the starter -- and there had been no substantive trade talks as of Wednesday morning.

That combination of factors has suggested a drawn-out affair. But eventually the Packers will have to take into consideration the impact of inaction -- on their players, their coaches and their fans.
