Coach Andy Reid claims he wants to get his first-teamers some reps in the preseason finale.

Not sure what's going on with these NFC East coaches violating the time-honored tradition of resting their starters in the final exhibition game, but Andy Reid has joined the crusade. On Monday, I told you how Redskins coach Jim Zorn had vowed to play his starters in an attempt to gain "tempo" heading into the regular season.

Now, Reid, a man who's always rested his starters in the final warm-up act, is thinking about a new course of action. At this point, it sounds like bravado to me. Maybe the commissioner sent out a memo telling coaches to pretend to care about these fake games. Whatever the reason, it's not a sound one.

Why in the world would you risk Donovan McNabb getting hurt when he's had, by all accounts, a wonderful training camp and preseason? You've already lost your top two receivers. Do you really want to push your luck? I could see wanting to let your starting offensive linemen have a couple of series together, but running McNabb out there is pure folly on every level.

Oh, I have some sad news to report from Eagles land: The Eagles just cut kicker Richmond McGee to help them get down to the required 75 players on the roster. Some people think Vince Young led the University of Texas to a national title, but it was really McGee.

I should also tell you that his big sister, Megan, is a daily reader of this blog. Thanks for your time.
