Something's clearly not right with the West Virginia offense after the Mountaineers failed to score a touchdown at East Carolina, Dave Hickman writes in the Charleston Gazette. They've added a passing attack but gotten away from what made them so effective in the first place.

"What I want to get back to is that belly option, where Pat [White] can read it, pull it or pitch it," coach Bill Stewart said. " We need to do more of that and that's what we're going to work on very, very hard this week. The zone's not been too bad, but the belly option is what we're lacking.''

* Connecticut is 2-0, but Randy Edsall knows that sooner or later, the Huskies are going to have to pass the ball with some measure of proficiency, Neil Ostrout notes in the Connecticut Post.

* After a couple of botched field goals and poor punt coverage, South Florida coach Jim Leavitt is unhappy with the state of his kicking game, Greg Auman says in the St. Petersburg Times.

* Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly isn't panicking after his team's 52-26 loss to Oklahoma. But Kelly said the defeat showed that his defense might not be as good as he thought, Bill Koch writes in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

* Syracuse's latest disaster was a total system failure, Dave Rahme says in the Syracuse Post-Standard.

* The Pittsburgh offense showed signs of life against Buffalo but still has vast room for improvement, Paul Zeise reports in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

* Rutgers running back Mason Robinson is trying to bounce back from a rough opening game, Tom Luicci says in The Star-Ledger.
