Week 1 in the Big East is only 75 percent complete, but here's what we have learned so far:
1. The Pittsburgh offense needs a major overhaul: The assumption was that with LeSean McCoy back and Bill Stull and Derek Kinder returning from injuries, the Pittsburgh offense would become explosive. Not yet. The Panthers instead imploded against Bowling Green, not scoring a touchdown after the second quarter or a point in the second half. There's no excuse for that at home against a MAC team.
2. West Virginia has more than just the option at its disposal: If the Mountaineers can pass like they did against Villanova, it's going to be hard for defenses to load up against the running game of Pat White and Noel Devine. And West Virginia still has some new offensive tweaks it didn't show against Villanova.
3. South Florida could be scary good: It's hard to read too much into a win over Tennessee-Martin. But the Bulls were so dominant on offense and defense that they pulled their starters by halftime in the 56-7 win. If they can play with that same kind of focus all season, look out.
4. Connecticut's passing game still needs work: UConn had hoped to open up things a little bit this year, but quarterback Tyler Lorenzen threw three interceptions against Hofstra -- half his total from last year. If they're struggling to throw against Hofstra, the Huskies might have to rely once again on their formula of ball control and defense from a year ago.
5. Syracuse is in for another long year: The Orange played well for a half against Northwestern, and actually had the lead in the third quarter. But the offense mustered just 225 total yards against a program not exactly renowned for its defense in a 30-10 loss.
