By Mike Loveday

It has been rumored, but today it became official. Joshua Alaeze has transferred to Dunbar.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker transferred from Parkville and has been working with the Poets football team during 7-on-7 games over the summer.

While his transfer has been public knowledge for the past few weeks, the final paperwork was completed today, Alaeze stated via text message.

The rising senior holds offers from New Mexico, Rhode Island, Akron, Old Dominion and Towson.

Busy week continues for Parkville linebacker

May 23, 2009 8:49 PM

By Mike Loveday

Parkville (Parkville, Md.) linebacker Joshua Alaeze had a busy week this week.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound junior picked up offers from Old Dominion and Rhode Island on Wednesday.  One day later, the University of Akron offered Alaeze.

The three offers increase Alaeze's college scholarship offer total to five. Towson and New Mexico have also offered the junior. Towson offered Alaeze last summer.

Old Dominion and Rhode Island are recruiting Alaeze as a linebacker. Akron is looking at Alaeze as both a linebacker and fullback.

As if the offers were not exciting enough for Alaeze, the University of Florida's tight end coach Brian White stopped by Parkville on Friday.

"Coach [White] said they only come to visit guys they are seriously thinking of offering,” Alaeze said.

Alaeze plans to attend one-day camps at the University of North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida this summer.

Rather than relax over Memorial Day weekend, Alaeze chose to make a couple unofficial visits – heading to Cincinnati on Saturday and Louisville on Monday.

Alaeze receives third offer

January 18, 2009 11:30 AM

By Mike Loveday

Parkville linebacker Joshua Alaeze's recruiting has started to pick up some speed since his season ended.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound junior picked up his third official offer last week – this one from New Mexico. Alaeze already held offers from Towson and Pittsburgh. Alaeze picked up his first offer [Towson] on Sunday July, 27 when he attended the Tigers camp.

Alaeze played in Parkville's first eight games of the season [he missed the last two due to a broken hand] and recorded 89 tackles, seven forced fumbles and six sacks.

One of ESPNRISE.com/MDVarsity.com's Nine to watch in 2009, Alaeze began making a name for himself over the summer when he ran a 4.7 40-yard dash and put up 23 repetitions of 155 pounds at the Schumann's National Underclassman Combine.

Other recruiting news and notes

I meant to post this a few days ago, but with commitments seemingly happening non-stop it slipped my mind. DeMatha's Raheem Cardwell officially decommitted from Syracuse last Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker told Stags head coach Bill McGregor on Monday that he was not sure about remaining with the Orange.

Cardwell along with linemen Calvin McDowney had a visit planned to Toledo this weekend.

Staying with DeMatha, quarterback Tom Chroniger has offers from Eastern Michigan, James Madison, New Mexico and Towson and has a planned visit for JMU. According to McGregor, Maryland has been expressing interest in Chroniger as a safety.

July 27, 2008 7:56 PM

Rising junior Joshua Alaeze (pictured) recieved his first offer on Sunday, July 27. After deciding to attend the Towson camp, the Parkville student recieved a verbal offer from the Tigers.

"The linebackers coach told the head coach to come over and look at me," Alaeze said. "Then the head coach pulled me over and said that he can't offer me officially yet, but to expect it in the mail after September first."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker began making a name for himself during the offseason when he ran a 4.7 40-yard dash and put up 23 repitions of 155 pounds at the Schuman's National Underclassman Combine.

Looking ahead to 2010 pt. 2

July 16, 2008 9:00 AM

By Mike Loveday

I am continuing my examination of the 2010 athletes who I believe will make a serious impact on thier respective teams this season.

Again, these are in no particular order.

Jordan Haden, Friendly: (pictured left) Haden already has several verbal offers and his older brother Joe (who plays for Florida) told me that Jordan will be the best of the three Haden brothers (Josh being the other).

Hussam Ouri, Broadneck: Ouri became the first lineman to win MVP honors at a Bullseye event for good reason. Ouri has good footwork and shows good stamina and strength.

Nick Marth, Linganore: As a sophomore, Marth recorded 10 interceptions and was named to the All-conference and All-area teams. At the Schumann's combine he ran a 4.58 40 and did 21 reps of 155 pounds.

Javarrus King, McDonough: King has prototypical size for a receiver and also plays linebacker. With 4.6 speed and the frame and strength to go with it, King looks to be the go-to-guy this season.

Joshua Alaeze, Parkville: Alaeze shows good strength and speed with 23 repetitions of 155 pounds and 4.7 speed. The 6-2, 225-pound Alaeze plays both linebacker and running back for Parkville.

James Holloman, Potomac: Holloman was another impressive athlete at the Nike Combine. The running back has 4.5 speed and has good strength with 19 reps at 155 pounds.

Mitchell Pollard, Springbrook: The safety ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at Schumann's and showed explosiveness with a 34.5-inch vertical jump.

Jeremiah Johnson, Suitland: On a team known for its defense, Johnson could be another standout player for head coach Nick Lynch. The cornerback ran a 4.59 40 and leapt 27 inches at the Schumann's camp.

Josh Marshall, Tuscarora: With Dominic Clarke and Jakarie Jackson making the plays last year, Marshall may have been overlooked. The rising junior was impressive during the Bullseye Combine and looks to have the tools to take over at quarterback this season.

Jeremy Grove, Thomas Johnson: (pictured right) Grove was one of Urbana's leading tacklers last season. Since the season ended, Grove transferred to Thomas Johnson, giving the Patriots a scary linebacking corps of Grove and Forbes.
