Like father, like son.

The cliche is quite fitting for the Nichols' family of Middletown.

Chase Nichols, a senior at Middletown, was named to the Maryland Association
of Coaches of Soccer (MACS) first-team all-state squad, matching a feat his
father pulled off nearly 25 years ago.

Chase's father, Chuck Nichols, was an all-state player at Middletown during
the early-mid-1970s where he guided his squad to a state title his junior
year - the 1973 season. The elder Nichols is the coach of the girls soccer
team at Urbana, and has coached three high school girls teams to state
titles.

This year's all-state teams were dominated by players from the highly
competitive MIAA A Conference - a collection of elite private schools in the
Baltimore area. McDonogh placed three players of the all-state first team,
and the league had a total of eight first-team picks.

On the girls side, McDonogh, representing the IAAM (the girls version of the
MIAA) placed four players on the all-state first team. The other IAAM
first-team is Erica Page of Archbishop Spalding, who was the Baltimore Sun's
Player of the Year.
