On the RISE: Falyn Fonoimoana

October 11, 2008 5:08 PM

Fonoimoana's imposing stare from across the net is enough to intimidate most girls.  At times, players have to shake their arms to regain feeling after a blow from one of the bullets she sent riffling at them.

In stark contrast, Fonoimoana emits an easy going grin as she waves to friends as she walks across the Mira Costa campus.  At 6-foot-4, and a head taller than most of her peers, she is easy to spot heading towards the gym where she picks up Coach Zimmerman's two children and takes them out to play.

The easygoing beach girl disappears once she steps on the court. Fonoimoana strives to continue the winning tradition of Mira Costa, which owns seven of eight state championships since 2000, and continually proves to be heads and shoulders above the rest.
