Three teams strengthened its case for national No. 1 consideration, while one title contender is gone from the picture.
Pennington (N.J.) and St. Ursula (Ohio) went out of state with eye-opening results, while Massapequa (N.Y.) stayed close to home to secure its state No. 1 ranking. Meanwhile, St. John's (D.C.), with a sudden coaching change and a four-goal loss to Pennington, saw its top billing disappear.
Today, we release the weekly ESPN Rise state-by-state rankings with the ESPN Rise FAB 50 to appear Tuesday on ESPNRise.com.
Pennington swept a pair of matches at the McDonogh Invitational, taking out former Top 20 teams St. John's and Bishop O'Connell (Va.). Pennington led 6-0 against St. John's until clearing the bench late in the second half. St. Ursula put a 7-1 pounding on North Central (Ind.), which was undefeated and ranked No. 6 in Indiana. Massapequa edged St. Anthony's (N.Y.) 1-0 in a meeting between the state's top public and private schools.
