I thought I would kick off the holiday season with a few things that should be on everyone's wish list. Some are lacrosse specific, some not -- but all for the highschool lacrosse player.
Rage Cage -- I would suggest a mini, not too expensive and I cannot tell you how many times my roommate Kyle Harrison and I as well as many other MLL types get the urge to rage.
"Seven" clothing for the girls out there. Jen Adams' new line is easily the most stylish and comfortable STX has made and it doesn't hurt that its creator is the best women's player of all time.
Custom Christmas colored Cascade helmet... WHY NOT?
New Maverick Hoodies, I was in the store last weekend and they are just killing it on the style side of lacrosse. Jay Jalbert must have learned something hanging out on the slopes because I could see any surf or skate company selling out of these hoodies.
Adrenalin Christmas colored socks& I am not even sure if they make them, but if they do, get a pair.
Season tickets to whatever local lacrosse games you have. NLL, MLL, College, and for you young guys High School& watching lacrosse is a great way to get better.
A gift certificate to your favorite camp this summer. Another amazing way to get better, but please do your research on camps before you sign up. Make sure you are picking a camp that provides what you want not just WHO you want. There are a million camps to choose from these days so make sure you pick the right one.
Sticks and Heads:
Warrior: Personal Favorite is Evolution and Evo 2.0. Personally think it's one of the top Heads in the game. Warrior has also come out with special edition gloves, the zebra print ones are pretty hot.
Brine: Clutch head, Chazz Woodson dropped one of these off to me last year and ended up using it for most of the season. Also feel free to pick on of those shafts out with the hot graphics. Also if you can find your teams colors in the gloves they make you are going to look smooth.
Nike: Dunk head, new and its hot, Nike seems to make good stuff as we all know by now. Drop one of the black handles with a white swoosh on it and youll be set.
STX: Viper 2, got to love this head, built for anyone to play with. My favorite head out right now from STX. Of Course don't forget about K18 line, from the hoodie the complete stick the line is great. I personally love the small arm pads he makes. Perfect for you defenseman. Also, if anyone can find a pair of the Limited edition gloves with the turtle tattoo on it, let me know... the guy is my roommate and I can't get a pair.
Maverick: If you need some maverick gear to go with that hoodie. The Juice head has just dropped and I got to mess around with one last weekend... They did a good job on the first release. Wonderboy shafts have always been good.
RBK: Got to be honest I have not played with them, but I have heard nothing but good things on the 9K O-Tech Handle with a 9K Career Head. Can't argue with a guy like Brodie who does what he does, it's got to be good if he is using it.
Gait: The Torque is always great, still a big seller and everyone likes it.
Tickets to the games at the Meadowlands -- you won't want to miss it.
Don't be afraid to get a gift certificate to a nice spa, boys and girls. The season gets long and when Prom comes around you may need a massage and a mani-pedi (ask my roommate Kyle Harrison, he loves them) to not look like you just rolled out of the locker room.
A ball bag and four dozen balls. Use them everyday.
Grab a book for the holidays, Here are a few I suggest -- some sports related, some not. Most of these books are for a highschool audiance and above.
"Kitchen Confidental" by Anthony Bourdain. I will step out and say Ryan Boyle will attest to this wish. For the inner chef in you, and just a great read.
"Do You" by Russel Simmons. This is great for those players looking for the way to get things done or have an entrpenureal spirit. Uncle Russel knows how to do it, and his way of thinking is just as good as it gets.
"How To Be Like Mike" by Pat Williams. I still read this book on Michael Jordan before just about every game. Mr. Dom Starsia at UVa suggested this book to me knowing how much I love MJ and it was, and still is, a perfect book for serious athletes.
"Sacred Hoops" by Phil Jackson. Jackson has coached some of the most amazing talents and personalites to ever grace athletics (MJ, Pippin, Kobe, Shaq daddy) and he bring his calmness to sports in a way that will still get you fired up to play.
"Ten Bears" by Chip Silverman and Miles Harrison. This is an amazing book everyone should read at sometime. Chip Silverman and Miles Harrison (Kyle's father) put together a book that became a documentary on the Morgan Bears. It is a book about much more than lacrosse and a candid look at the first all-black lacrosse team. An amazingly touching, funny and powerful read.
I will continue this wish list. Please feel free to let me know what I am missing. Email me at brett@studentsports.com with suggestions or comments.
