The Army Black Knights picked up a midfield/attackmen who turned many heads at last summer's NELC event. Parkway West's (Ballwin, Mo.) Andy Boyd has decided he wants to take his game to West Point and Coach Jack Emmer.

 ESPN RISE
Andy Boyd is off to West Point.

ESPN RISE: What made you decide to finally commit?

Andy Boyd: I had a strong feeling that Army would be the place for me all along, but when I went up this summer for camp and went again September 6th for an official visit, I was reassured that West Point was my best option.  They were the first Division 1 school to contact me, which really sparked my interest in them.  Army is well known for their academics and athletic programs, and I wanted to be a part of that tradition.

RISE: Are you one of the first Missouri boys to go D1?

AB: We have a lot of guys go to D3 schools, but there have been some lacrosse players from Missouri who have played Division I.  One of my best friends, Tyler Jarvis, recently committed to Manhattan.  Another good friend, Justin Dembo, went to play at Limestone. Nick Silva, a coach mine, also played at Manhattan and had a great career. So Missouri has seen some very good lacrosse players go on to high levels.

RISE: What are your feelings right now?

AB: I am relieved to have committed to Army, and I am just enjoying my soccer and football seasons.  My club lacrosse team, the St. Louis Samurais, starts up next weekend, and I'm very excited for that.  They do a great job of preparing kids to be recruited and for the spring season.

RISE: What are your expectations for the future? What do you hope to get from West Point on the field and off?

AB: I think Army will enable me to reach my potential.  On the field, I hope to help the Black Knights make a run in the playoffs.  Off the field, I want to get the most out of the West Point experience and be a great student.

How about a few bonus questions to represent you're the Lou for the readers:

RISE: Favorite Sports Team?

AB: St. Louis Blues!  My favorite sport to watch is hockey, but I also like the Cardinals.

RISE: Who are some names the lacrosse world should watch out for in the upcoming years from Missouri?

AB: Watch out for three teammates of mine:  Doug Roper, Steven Kurth and Harrison Wright.  Doug and Kurth are juniors and Harrison is only a freshman, and they are all definitely on the right track to play D1.  A few guys from my club team, the St. Louis Samurais, are also standouts, like Will McCormick, Levi "Trey" Kirkland, Matt Schenck, Tyler Jarvis and Michael Helfont.  Look out for all these STL boys!
