Bethlehem Academy, Jordan, Shakopee seeded No. 1 for girls' volleyball tournament
Twenty-four coaches determined the top four seeded teams in each class for the 2008 State Girls' Volleyball Tournament. When the tabulating was completed, Bethlehem Academy of Faribault was chosen No. 1 in Class A, Jordan was chosen No. 1 in Class AA, and Shakopee was chosen No. 1 in Class AAA.
The coaches logged onto the League Web site and ranked the other teams 1 through 7. The highest and lowest rankings for each team were discarded, which left five rankings for each team. The top four seeds were selected from those rankings. A representative of the coaches association then conducted a blind draw of the four remaining teams to establish the opponents for the seeded teams.
The Class AAA tournament opens Thursday, Nov. 6, 9:00 a.m., with two quarterfinal matches: No. 1 seed Shakopee (28-2) facing Rochester Mayo (21-9) and No. 4 seed Wayzata (22-8) facing Andover (21-9). The second pair of quarterfinals are scheduled for 11:00 a.m.: No. 2 seed Eastview of Apple Valley (26-4) versus Osseo (23-6) and No. 3 seed St. Michael-Albertville (28-2) versus Cretin-Derham Hall of St. Paul (20-10).
