Lower Merion, Texans-Houston secure U17 spots April 20, 2009 9:47 AM US Youth Soccer The US Youth Soccer National League Under-17 Boys, the last of the six age groups to finalize League standings, wrapped up the season this weekend with two make-up games. The weekend's results named Lower Merion Velez (E-Pa.) as the National League Under-17 Boys champion and Dallas Texans – Houston 92 Red (S-Texas) as the runner up. Through their success in the league, Lower Merion and the Texans both secure spots in the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass. Lower Merion took on Eastern Pennsylvania rival YMS Xplosion on Saturday. Both teams were tied for first with 14 league points going into the game. Neither team was able to get one past the keeper until the 86th minute when Dalton Carroll netted one for Lower Merion. Teammate Michael Markovitz followed Carroll's lead for a last minute shot in the 90th minute to give Lower Merion the final upper hand, the League title and the opportunity for a return trip to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. The Texans and Cobb FC (Ga.) game was set for Saturday, but storms in the Jackson, Miss., area forced the teams to reschedule for Sunday morning. Cobb opened with an early 8th minute shot by Jamal Keene, but 10 minutes later, Alexander Suarez hit the Texans' equalizer for a 1-1 tie. The Texans needed a win to advance, and Anderson McDaniel answered that call with a 55th minute goal to put the Texans ahead 2-1. Marlos Escobar followed up with a 69th minute shot of his own that led to the Texans 3-1 victory over Cobb.
