Jaguars receiver Matt Jones has deflected some attention from a report that the Jaguars are for sale -- and Wayne Weaver's denial: He was arrested Thursday morning in Fayetteville, Ark. on a felony drug charge.
The Florida Times-Union said Jones admitted to police the white substance he was found cutting up in his car was cocaine and police tests confirmed it.
Even before this news, Jones had fallen out of favor with the Jaguars, who spent the 18th pick in the 2005 draft on the converted college quarterback.
Receiver has remained a position of need for Jacksonville, which had the league's 17th-rated pass offense in 2007, when it went to the playoffs as a Wild Card and won its first postseason game in Pittsburgh
The Jaguars added veteran receivers Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson in an effort to upgrade the weapons for quarterback David Garrard.
In three seasons, Jones has played in 42 games with 101 receptions for 1,392 yards and 13 touchdowns. But last year he caught only 24 passes, ranking just sixth on the team.
