Wayne Weaver is in talks about selling the Jaguars, according to a report by Paul Domowitch in the Philadelphia Daily News. The potential buyer, billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, denied that he was involved in any such negotiations.

The Jaguars are a prime candidate to move to Los Angeles if ownership changes hands.

A team spokesman told the Florida Times-Union the team had no immediate comment and that Weaver was travelling and would not be available until Thursday.

According to the Daily News, Metropoulos, 61, is the former chairman and chief executive officer of New Jersey-based Pinnacle Foods, which is the parent company of food brands such as Duncan Hines, Armour, Vlasic and Mrs. Paul's. Metropoulos sold Pinnacle last year for more than $2 billion.

He said he was not in discussions about purchasing the team.

"I must tell you I haven't had any such discussions," he said. "I wouldn't know how to give you any credibility to that because I don't know anything about it."

But the paper cited "several credible league sources" who said discussions between Weaver and Metropoulos are being brokered by Sal Galatioto of the New York sports investment firm Galatioto Sports Partners.

Sources also said Metropoulos previously has tried to buy the Oakland Raiders and the Miami Dolphins. He denied that as well.
