The Minnesota Vikings have signed safety
Robert Griffith to a ceremonial contract so he can retire as a member of the team, a Vikings spokesman confirmed Thursday. Griffith played for the Vikings from 1994 to 2001.
Griffith, 37, last played for Arizona in 2006.
A hard-hitting safety originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Griffith had 1,103 tackles and 27 interceptions over his 13-year career. He earned a Pro Bowl berth in 2000. Griffith played for Cleveland from 2002-04 before rejoining former Vikings coach Dennis Green in Arizona.
