The Detroit Lions made it two-for-two this week: Both of their top draft choices found their way into the headlines for off-field incidents.
A published report revealed Tuesday that second-round pick Jordon Dizon -- a linebacker from Colorado -- was arrested six days before the draft. Dizon was charged with driving under the influence, among other charges. He has pleaded not guilty and has an Oct. 21 trial date in Boulder, Colo.
Wednesday, first-round draft pick Gosder Cherilus was ordered to serve one year of pretrial probation for his role in a fight last summer. Cherilus, an offensive tackle, also must pay $52,000 in medical bills for a victim who suffered a broken neck. Defensive back DeJuan Tribble, a sixth-round pick of the San Diego Chargers, also must serve probation for his role in the incident.
Cherilus told the Boston Globe last year that his only role in the fight was as a peacemaker.
It's not clear whether the Lions knew about Dizon's arrest before drafting him, but Cherilus' incident was reported in the Boston media at the time.
