Despite a slight dropoff at the quarterback position, the Green Bay Packers consider their overall roster more talented than the one that went 13-3 and advanced to the NFC Championship game last season.

"This is the best (the roster) has looked since I've been here as far as the names and the talent and the type of people on the board," coach Mike McCarthy said. "So I'm very happy with that. I think when the time comes to get to 53, there's going to be some tough cuts that we have to make."

On Wednesday, McCarthy is scheduled to take his team through its second day of mandatory mini-camp. Just based on a quick observation, one player to keep an eye on is receiver Jordy Nelson, the team's second-round pick from Kansas State.

The knock on Nelson was that he lacked elite speed, but he sure hasn't looked slow while running routes in the Packers' indoor practice facility. As long as Nelson's speed is adequate, his 6-3 frame and strong receiving instincts make him a candidate to be a surprise rookie performer in 2008.
