Two weeks ago, Javon Walker's thoughts were on revenge. All in the terms of football, of course.

He wanted to beat his former team, the Denver Broncos, when he and the Oakland Raiders host the Broncos on ESPN's "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 8. Now, Walker is recovering from injuries suffered after a robbery in Las Vegas on Monday morning.

I've known Walker for two years and enjoyed catching up with him two weeks ago at the Raiders' minicamp. I noticed that Walker seemed very comfortable in his new surroundings and that he was happy.

Walker wasn't happy last year in Denver after tragedy off the field and frustration on it. He continued to downplay the effects that the death of former Denver teammate Darrent Williams had on him. Walker was sitting next to Williams when he was shot and killed in a limousine in Denver on Jan. 1, 2007.

Still, I got the impression that being out of Denver was good for Walker on all fronts. He was ready for a new start. Now, tragedy has struck him again.
