The league is mourning the death of former head coach John Rauch. Rauch is best known for starting the Oakland Raiders' Super Bowl era by leading the team to Super Bowl II (a 33-14 loss to Green Bay).

Rauch, who succeeded Al Davis as the Raiders coach, was 80. An important coaching figure in the 1960s, Rauch was O.J. Simpson's first coach in Buffalo. Pro Football Hall of Fame coaches Bill Walsh and John Madden were assistants on his Raiders teams.
