The Cleveland Browns continued their minicamp at their training facility in Berea, Ohio, today. Here are a few practice observations from Hashmarks.
-
Both quarterbacks
Derek Anderson and
Brady Quinn are showing flashes of greatness mixed in with some bad plays. Quinn made a pair of beautiful deep throws to tight end
Kellen Winslow Jr. and wide receiver
Travis Wilson today, but he also threw an awful interception to cornerback Damon Jenkins. Anderson likewise has made some good and bad throws. But he's been more conscious this spring of throwing the ball out of bounds to prevent bad plays. Anderson was one of the league leaders with 19 interceptions in 2007.
"I'm trying to make sure I don't do stupid things when nothing's there," Anderson said. "Just throw it away."
- A day after center LeCharles Bentley was cleared to rejoin the team, he missed this morning's meeting and did not practice on Wednesday. The meeting was mandatory and Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he's unsure why Bentley was absent.
"We'll talk to him and we'll find out what the situation is," Crennel said. "Until I know, I'm not going to speculate, and then when I know something I'll let you know something."
- Wide receiver Kevin Kasper has been a nice surprise during minicamp in addition to organized team activities. With receivers Joe Jurevicius (knee) and Donte' Stallworth (personal reasons) both out, Kasper is getting reps with the first team and has shown good hands and quickness.
- The play of the day came from backup running back Jerome Harrison, who made a one-handed catch in tight coverage over linebacker D'Qwell Jackson for approximately a 25-yard gain.
- Starting cornerback Brandon McDonald missed his second day of minicamp due to a death in the family. Veteran Terry Cousin is getting work this week with the first team.
