This will probably be the last we'll hear from Jake Plummer, unless he's winning another handball tournament with his brother.
From the moment he retired on March 2, 2007, until today, when he agreed to pay back Tampa Bay $3.5 million, there has been a faction in the NFL that expected the former Arizona and Denver quarterback to return.
But those people didn't know Plummer very well. Plummer soured on the NFL life when he lost his job in late 2006 to Denver top pick Jay Cutler. When the Broncos traded him to Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers were unwilling to give Plummer a starting nod, he packed it in. And he was never coming back.
While paying $3.5 million is a lot better than having to repay Tampa Bay $7 million, Plummer took his chances prior to the settlement. All he had to do was report to training camp last year and he'd be in the financial clear. But Plummer was at terms with the payment because he didn't want to play in the NFL anymore.
Plummer is having too much fun living in Idaho with his new wife and playing handball. Now that his NFL debt is officially paid and he is free from the league, don't expect to hear about him much.
