Here's an update to the story I wrote on former NFL receiver Michael Westbrook back in April. At long last, Westbrook is a world champion.

Westbrook, who now competes in Brazilian jujitsu, won the world championship in the super heavyweight division for purple belts over the weekend in California. Westbrookwas awarded a brown belt (the sport's second-highest level) Monday night.

"This one was very important to me because I'd won several Pan American championships and national championships in the past," Westbrook said Monday afternoon. "But this is my first world championship."

Westbrook said his next goal will be to work his way up from a brown to black belt.

"Hopefully, a black belt will be just around the corner," Westbrook said. "But there's still a lot of work to do. I stayed around and watched those guys after I competed and some of them are just ridiculously good. I'm not at that level yet, but I'll keep working to get there."
