Lamest tailgate scene in North America

Some Bills fans will be in for a rude awakening when they cross the border for a preseason game this August. And I'm not talking about the sorry brand of football offered during the exhibition season.

Canadians apparently have a different outlook on tailgating, which is to say they've pretty much outlawed the entire concept. Toronto doesn't offer outdoor parking lots, and it's illegal to consume adult beverages in public.

Fortunately, a Bills season-ticket holder named Jane Kwiatkowski says it's possible to tailgate without alcohol and a grill. Her description of that scenario sounds a lot like my college experience:

"People sit in their vehicles and eat submarine sandwiches and drink soft drinks," she says. "But it's more insular."

Really? I never thought knocking down a Quiznos and a medium Diet Coke with my buddies 30 minutes before a Rice-Baylor game felt insular. Remarkably sad perhaps, but not insular.
