Former Raiders quarterback Kenny Stabler was arrested Sunday morning for drunken driving in Robertsdale, Ala. It's his third such arrest since 1995. And what's this new trend with guys smiling in their mug shots? Stabler seems to be smirking, but Bears running back Cedric Benson appeared to be posing for a school photo following his weekend arrest on drunken driving charges in Austin.
If I'm Benson, I'm steering clear of Travis County for a few months -- except for court appearances. The Bears should've cut their losses with Benson a while back. Now, they've pretty much run out of reasons to defend him.
He's underperformed on and off the field. It's too late to make a "statement" and try to act like they're tough on crime. As we saw with Tank Johnson, the Bears are perfectly willing to let players embarrass them. At this point, they should forget the life lessons and let another team "rehabilitate" Benson's image.
I'm sure the Cowboys could find a spot for Benson.
