The Broncos suffered another nagging offseason issue when standout center Tom Nalen injured his knee, requiring minor surgery. The team expects Nalen to be healthy in a few weeks and for him to definitely be ready for training camp.

The tough-as-nails Nalen, who is 37 and who is entering the final year of his contract with the Broncos, missed the final 11 games of last season with an arm injury. His replacement last season, Chris Myers, was traded to Houston this offseason. The team signed former Kansas City center Casey Wiegman, and he is the insurance policy should Nalen experience further issues. Nalen has been a fixture in Denver since joining the team as a seventh-round choice in 1994.

Meanwhile, Denver has started preliminary talks with some of its draft picks this week.
