There is no salary cap in golf, but that only begins to explain why Tiger Woods commanded four times as much as Peyton Manning, the most marketed NFL player, over the last year. Bloomberg breaks down the annual Sports Illustrated rankings of highest-paid athletes. Even Phil Mickelson commanded twice as much as Manning. The NFL might be king of the sports world, but its highest-paid players cannot compete with the nearly $128 million in estimated income for Woods, who is also longer off the tee. The NFL salary cap is about $116 million per team.
