It is remarkable to read that Denver quarterback Jay Cutler lost 35 pounds during the course of the second half of the season last year as he was struggling with the beginning stages of Type 1 diabetes.
I covered Cutler last season and the kid didn't play poorly during this time. Take a look at his game-by-game statistics. His numbers didn't take a plunge along with his weight and his energy level. He deserves a lot of credit for hanging tough.
In a weird way, this condition could end up helping Cutler. He'll feel so much better this season than he felt last season and it could give him an instant boost. Plus, Cutler, who turned 25 this week, will be forced into eating better and he could end up healthier and better on the field as a result of his diagnosis.
