Philip Rivers was expected to do little or nothing is this weekend's Chargers' minicamp as he recuperates from a torn ACL in his plant leg.
However, Rivers worked the Friday morning session and looked solid doing it.
Really, should it be a surprise that Rivers was practicing during a May minicamp exactly 100 days after having major knee surgery? This is the same guy who played with the injury in the AFC title game after he was injured the week before in a road win at Indianapolis.
Rivers downplayed his appearance Friday.
"It's about the right time to get back," he said. "I'm ahead of schedule and it feels good."
Still, Rivers said he will be careful as he approaches the season. Rivers said he is not sure if he will practice daily in training camp, which commences in late July. He did say he'll play this season with a brace on his leg.
"I'm still trying to get strong and I'm working on it every day," Rivers said. "But I feel like I'm making real good progress."
Rivers said he is considering calling Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer or advice. Palmer was suffered the same injury in the 2004 playoffs and was back for he regular season. Whatever approach Rivers is taking, it's clearly working.
"Phillip is just a fast healer," Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson said. "He's showing it."
