The Miami Herald is reporting that the Chargers are kicking the tires about trading for Jason Taylor.
Wow. That would be huge for San Diego. Don't care if it is even for just a year. The Chargers are a team that is loaded to win it all right now. When I was at their minicamp earlier this month, several key members of the organization, including general manager A.J. Smith and quarterback Philip Rivers, admitted that there is urgency felt by the team.
Taylor would bring the Chargers a step closer to the Super Bowl. The Chargers already have a strong pass rush presence. Taylor would simply add to it.
Since the Dolphins have been asking for a second-round pick and have rejected fourth-round picks, it would likely take a third rounder for the Dolphins to bite. It would be worth it for the Chargers to make this deal. Taylor would thrive in San Diego.
Meanwhile, there has been recent speculation that the Chiefs could get in the mix for Taylor. That one is difficult to believe. Yes, the Chiefs have some cap room and they have a need at the position. But they are headed toward a youth movement. Plus, Taylor wants to go to a contender. This is just not a match. But Taylor to San Diego is another story.
