I'd like to make an early nomination for SI's "Sign of the Apocalypse" this week:
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has tentatively agreed to participate in a reality cooking series with current and former players called "Cooking with the All Pros," which may begin filming in Dallas in late June.
Just a quick suggestion to the show's producers: If you're only going to use current and former Dallas players, "Cooking with the Cowboys" sounds a lot better. "Cooking with the All Pros" is very generic, and it will be misleading when you roll Phil Pozderac through for a guest appearance.
The show will pair players with fans in elaborate cooking competitions that will take place at one of Dallas' finest restaurants and a high-end grocery store. Witten, a daily Hashmarks reader who often provides "constructive" criticism, is hoping to raise money for his charity, the S.C.O.R.E. Foundation, which helps children and families who are victims of domestic abuse. Cowboys fans will be able to bid on tax-deductible contributions toward Witten's charity, and the top bidders will appear on the show.
As you know, the Cowboys have had a busy offseason. T.O.'s touching portrayal of Flava Flav's long-lost brother, Sean, in the sitcom "Under One Roof" aired last Wednesday. I'm told that T.O. is also in discussions with the E! Network about an upcoming reality show.
Throw in the fact that the team will be participating in HBO's "Hard Knocks" series and you have the makings of a television monopoly. Our Hashmarks entertainment bureau will continue to track this story.
