One other meeting on the agenda for Tuesday's NFL spring meeting in Atlanta may sound a little familiar. Owners again will discuss a proposal by the Kansas City Chiefs that would require players to tuck their hair under their helmet or have it cut.
The proposal, which was discussed and tabled at the April league meeting, calls for all players to have hair that won't block their name on the back of the jersey. Unlike a lot of Kansas City's many, self-serving or bizarre proposals, this one at least drew some agreement with other teams. But the real challenge in getting a rule like this passed is getting the players' association to agree.
The players' union was supposed to survey players about their feelings on the potential rule and report back to the league so there could be further dialogue at this meeting. If Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu and a few other guys who wear their hair long were part of the survey, this proposal might not even make it to a vote.
