While discussing the Super Bowl hangover effect with Giants GM Jerry Reese last Thursday, we talked about his recent conversations with defensive end Michael Strahan. A recent report in the New York Daily News suggested that Strahan wants to double the $4 million that he's set to make in 2008. I think the Giants are willing to increase Strahan's salary, but $8 million is a bit steep for a player who'd had injury issues heading into the 2007 season.
Reese has let Strahan know that the Giants will need an answer before training camp this year. The then-rookie GM set the tone for last year's holdout when he basically said New York would win with or without Strahan.
"Michael has to make a really tough decision," Reese said. "Does he want to go out on top or does he want to take a shot at another one? He'll let us know. As personnel people, you always prepare for the worst. I'd say there's a 50-50 chance [he comes back]."
