The Bills' placement of Kevin Everett on the waived/failed physical list allows the seriously injured tight end to seek additional benefits to assist with his recovery, the team said:
"Today we are faced with the difficult decision to place Kevin on the Waived/Failed Physical list, making him eligible to apply for any benefits due him. We had numerous discussions with the league in dealing with this process to assist him in the best way possible. Kevin will always remain a Buffalo Bill in the same way that Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and so many others before him are held in the highest regard by our franchise." -- Bills statement
This is one of those times when roster management becomes awkward. When a player is seriously injured or dies, the team eventually removes the player's name from its active roster. Limits on roster size are ultimately unforgiving. The Bills, through their statement, appear to be going about this in a delicate manner.
