Colts head coach Tony Dungy chose an interesting forum to once again criticize Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Speaking at what amounted to a pep rally for his book, "Quiet Strength," at Tampa's Jefferson High School, Dungy was asked if anything happened last season that he wished he could've included.
Dungy and his co-author were randomly selecting questions from the audience out of a football helmet, but that last question didn't sound all that random. He predictably brought up Spygate.
"We talk about how important it is to do things the right way and have integrity so that when you do win, people can never ask that question," said Dungy. "That's the great thing that I'm happy about with our team.
"Yes, we won. But no one is really going to ask, 'Did they cheat? Did they do things the right way?' I think our record speaks for itself and if you're a true champion, that's the way you'd like it to be."
For those of you with no training in reading between the lines, here's what Dungy meant: "We won a Super Bowl fair and square, unlike the New England Patriots."
I've been a Dungy fan for several years, but he comes off sounding pretty sanctimonious in those quotes. Tony, we know you think Belichick cheated to win those Super Bowls. You've made your point loud and clear.
I just think taking shots at the Patriots organization during a book rally at a local high school seems a bit misguided.
