A range of emotions on Mother's Day

Mother's Day carries different meaning based on our experiences, as reflected in recent stories involving NFL players:

  • As youngsters, Dwight Freeney and his brother, Hugh, once covered their mother's kitchen in cookie-baking ingredients, part of an early-morning gift to their mother, Joy.
  • Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs can flip through the scrapbooks maintained by his mother, a retired Army master sergeant.
  • Pat Tillman's mother has written a book about her late son, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.
  • We also direct you to the Professional Football Players Mothers Association, where the mission is to "identify and implement programs that advance the organization's vision by providing yearly educational seminars and programs designed to inform and assist players and their mothers in their transition to the NFL."
Happy Mother's Day to all.
