Back in January, I had the pleasure of doing one of the most fun stories of my career. In the middle of winter, I left my Florida home to go to Montrose, Pa., to do a feature on New York Giants guard Chris Snee and his unique relationship with his tiny hometown.
A little disclosure here: I grew up just down the road about 30 miles in Dalton, which has one less traffic light than Montrose. Before the January visit, my last trip to Montrose was 25 years ago sometime this month to play in a high school baseball game. But, aside from the addition of a McDonald's and a Price Chopper supermarket, Montrose hadn't changed a bit and that's a wonderful thing.
I distinctly remember Snee talking during our interview about how Montrose will always be a huge part of him. Sometimes, people change. But, if you've ever been to Montrose or talked to Snee, you know his relationship with that town never will change.
A friend of mine, who still lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania, just let me know that Snee will be throwing out the first pitch at a minor-league baseball game in nearby Binghamton, N.Y. on May 18. In classic Snee form, he's not going to just show up, throw a pitch and leave. He's going to spend an hour before the game signing autographs and mingling with fans.
