No matter what happens in the Cedric Benson case, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti thinks the Bears should cut their losses with the running back.
"We talk about the quarterback hex in this town. What about the running back jinx? Turns out Rashaan Salaam was stoned during his bouts with fumbleitis. Turns out Curtis Enis had a screw loose.
Now we have Cedric The Entertainer, party animal, sinking fast on his personal Titanic."
I've followed this guy's career since high school. He was a phenomenal back coming out of Midland and he had a great career at Texas. He also had a couple of brushes with the law, which is a rite of passage for Mack Brown's players. This just in: Cedric has retained a new attorney, and I hear good things about this guy.
For whatever reason, he hasn't come close to living up to expectations in Chicago. He'd be much better off with a fresh start. As Mariotti points out, the Bears don't need to wait for justice to run its course. He's already lost his three-year trial on the field.
By the way, I do love how everyone in the country is suddenly an expert about the Lower Colorado River Authority on Lake Travis. Who knew this was such a notorious bunch?
One last thing: Jay, it's the Hill Country, not "Hill County."
