The Chiefs, in their search for another dynamic return man officially signed former Baltimore returner B.J. Sams to a one-year deal today. Can Sams make Chiefs fan forget about the return glory days of Dante Hall? Maybe not, but he is as good an option as anyone on the market.

Sams, who had one career start at cornerback for the Ravens in his four seasons there, had both a kickoff and a punt return for a score in 2004, his rookie season. Sams has returned 138 kickoffs for a 22.9-yard return average and he has returned 121 punts for a 10.9-yard average in his career.

While Sams hasn't been as dynamic the past three years as he was as a rookie, he is a capable return man. Again, the Chiefs can't expect Sams to give the same impact that Hall did before he was traded to St. Louis last year.

From 2000 to 2006, Hall retuned six kicks for scores and five punts for scores. Sams will never be that special, but at least he gives the points-hungry Chiefs a chance again in the return game. Eddie Drummond was Kansas City's primary return man last season. He was solid but not spectacular as he averaged 21.2 yards on kickoffs and 6.9 yards on punts with no touchdowns.
