The word at the Broncos' facility is that the team will seriously consider making sixth-round pick Spencer Larsen a fullback. He was an All-Pac-10 linebacker at Arizona.
Larsen said in a teleconference call with media members after being picked that Denver coach Mike Shanahan mentioned the idea of him playing fullback to him Sunday. Word inside the organization is that it's more than an idea and Denver will likely work Larsen some on offense in the offseason camps.
Larsen last played fullback in high school but is receptive to the idea. Denver did take Arkansas fullback Peyton Hillis in the seventh round so maybe the Broncos, who also could use a young linebacker, will change course and keep Larsen on defense.
Another player in Denver who also may be taking on a new responsibility is defensive lineman Josh Mallard. The team is thinking about using Mallard as a long snapper to give incumbent Mike Leach competition in camp.
