The Chargers were criticized for not selecting a tackle in the draft last weekend. Patience must be a virtue.

The Chargers grabbed a veteran Tuesday by signing tackle L.J. Shelton to a two-year deal. The massive Shelton, 6-foot-6, 345 pounds, started all 16 games for the Dolphins last season. The 10-year veteran has started 125 games in his career.

"We had the opportunity to add an experienced, good player to the mix at offensive tackle," General Manager A.J. Smith said in a statement released by the team. "L.J. has played both left and right tackle during his career. We were thin at the position and we were determined to find a talented player. We believe we've addressed the need with L.J. Shelton."

This is a solid move by the Chargers, who clearly recognized they had to find an offensive lineman. In this past weekend's draft, they selected cornerback Antoine Cason in the first round and running back Jacob Hester in the second.
