Rapping with Gruden

Just finished listening to coach Jon Gruden talk about his draft picks and how they'll have an impact on the roster. Here are a few nuggets:

+ Gruden stopped well short of calling quarterback Josh Johnson the long-term answer. In fact, Gruden made it sound like the University of San Diego product is a project.

"Is he the quarterback of the future? I don't know,'' Gruden said. "But he'll compete.''

+ Counting Joseph, the Bucs have six quarterbacks on their roster. Make it seven if you want to count Jake Plummer, who's retired, but never has filled out the official paperwork.

"We won't take six to camp,'' Gruden said.

Translation: Look for Chris Simms, who hasn't played since having his spleen removed in 2006, to be traded or released very soon.

+ Gruden admitted the Bucs have given some thought to moving Jeremy Trueblood from right tackle to left tackle. But Gruden said Luke Petitgout is recovering well from a torn ACL and the team expects him back at left tackle in time for next season. Gruden said the plan right now is for Trueblood to stay at right tackle.

NFL draft, Jon Gruden, Chris Simms, Jake Plummer, Jeremy Trueblood, Luke Petitgout
