The 49ers have added Texas A&M center Cody Wallace with the 107th overall choice. He is a true center and does not project to guard at this time. The team drafted USC guard Chilo Rachal in the second round yesterday (39th overall).

Wallace is listed at 6-foot-4 and 296 pounds. Veteran center Eric Heitmann has started 46 games over the past three seasons. He is the incumbent and projected starter.

The 49ers do need depth along their line. They let Justin Smiley leave in free agency. Starting guard David Baas is undergoing pectoral surgery. The team is moving Joe Staley to left tackle and Jonas Jennings to right tackle. Larry Allen is an unrestricted free agent contemplating retirement. Rachal and Wallace give the offense two young prospects to develop and possibly challenge for starting jobs before long.
