Notes from draft media room

Jake Long has been moving non-stop all week. The Michigan offensive tackle said he received a call from his agent on Monday informing him the Dolphins wanted to make him the No. 1 overall pick. On Tuesday, Long was on a flight to Miami, and on Wednesday, the deal was announced. Long said that although he knew where he was heading, it wasn't until he heard the commissioner call his name and he was able to hold his jersey on stage that it felt official.

Long also noted that with Vernon Gholston being drafted by the Jets, their Michigan-Ohio State rivalry will carry over to the AFC East for many years to come.

The "other" Long, Chris, came in about 30 minutes later, seemingly more concerned with what the Patriots had done with their pick at No. 7, wondering whether teammate Branden Albert had been selected. Long said his first order of business in St. Louis is to go in and establish himself as a leader. Prior to coming down for an interview, Long was able to chat with new teammate Steven Jackson. Long called Jackson "a heck of a guy to have on your team" and assured the vet that he's coming to work.

I also was able to catch up with proud dad Howie Long. As a Hall of Famer, he obviously garnered more attention than the other parents. Wearing a St. Louis cap, he admitted it's going to take a while to get used to wearing Rams gear and made it clear he's still a Raider at heart. Howie said Chris being in the NFL won't affect how he analyzes Rams games for FOX, unless St. Louis makes it to the Super Bowl -- then, his objectivity might become somewhat blurred.
