The talk around the league Friday afternoon is that the St. Louis Rams may take Virginia defensive end Chris Long with the No. 2 pick. The Raiders and Chiefs are paying close attention to the rumblings.
Long, Son of Howie, is high on both Oakland and Kansas City's lists. The Raiders have the No. 4 pick and the Chiefs have the No. 5 pick. If Long is gone, the Raiders may choose between Arkansas running back Darren McFadden or Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston.
The Chiefs, in need of a defensive end in wake of trading Jared Allen to Minnesota this week, would likely hope Oakland passes on Gholston. If Long, Gholston and LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (who could be headed to Atlanta at No. 3) are all off the board when Kansas City picks, it may have to go offensive and take McFadden or Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan or even reach for an offensive lineman such as Boise State's Ryan Clady or Virginia's Branden Albert.
If the Rams do take Long, it could have major implications on both Oakland and Kansas City.
