First, a confession: I picked the Rams as a wild-card team in the NFC last offseason, along with Washington. There was much to like about the Rams' offense while the team was still able to field an offensive line. The St. Louis defense improved, as expected, but those injuries on the offensive line overshadowed everything. The Rams still might have missed the playoffs, but they had zero chance once Orlando Pace and four or five of his closest pals broke down.
How should we view the Rams this offseason? As a playoff team, Rams part-owner Chip Rosenbloom told reporters in St. Louis this week.
Backing off the Rams would be the natural reaction to last season. But if they can stabilize the offensive line well enough to keep Marc Bulger happy, Rosenbloom might be right. Holding the second overall choice should allow the Rams to land a defensive playmaker. And with two more picks in the top 65, they might be able to help the offensive line as well.
