In just his first offseason as a general manger Jeff Ireland has shown he is a crafty one.
Last week, Ireland was being laughed at for what was perceived a slip of the tongue. During a pre-draft presser, Ireland said the Dolphins thought they'd get a defensive stalwart in the draft. In this pre-draft hysteria, the pundits all said Ireland blew it and he showed his cards.
The Dolphins were definitely going to take a defensive player and Ireland let the cat out of the bag.
Now, of course, the entire world knows what the Dolphins are going to do because they already did it. Miami has signed and sealed Michigan left tackle -- yes, he plays offense -- Jake Long on Tuesday.
You got to know Ireland know what he was doing when he made that comment last week. He was sending a smokescreen all the while throwing himself under the bus. Very crafty, Mr. Ireland, very crafty, indeed.
